Es el primer manga que leo （sí， ya sé que leerme one piece como primer manga es un poco suicida） y debo admitir que me ha gustado bastante。 Me lo he leído en menos de hora y media y tenía la idea de que tardaría unos días。 La historia， la cual trata de piratas， me parece más interesante de lo que pensaba， y desde luego tiene potencial。 Seguiré leyéndolo y veré cómo avanza。

Funnily enough， One Piece is probably the series that made me fall in love with manga in the first place。 18 year old me was thrust into a world chalk full of content， and not being sure what to read， I picked one of the most popular series to start reading first， even though， even back then， the chapter count was daunting。 Boy， am I glad I took the plunge because One Piece remains one of my favourite series over a decade later。Since the manga is quickly approaching it’s 1000th chapter （it’s hon Funnily enough， One Piece is probably the series that made me fall in love with manga in the first place。 18 year old me was thrust into a world chalk full of content， and not being sure what to read， I picked one of the most popular series to start reading first， even though， even back then， the chapter count was daunting。 Boy， am I glad I took the plunge because One Piece remains one of my favourite series over a decade later。Since the manga is quickly approaching it’s 1000th chapter （it’s honestly shocking to even think about）， and having taken a couple year break from the series， because I prefer binging series over reading them weekly now that I’m older， I decided to dive into the series from the beginning and I am happy to say that it is just as charming as it was when I read it as a teenager。 Luffy is probably one of the most irreverent shonen protagonists to date， and I don’t think I ever found him annoying at any point。 He’s dumb， but driven。 He has a goal but he also accepts that his future crew members have goals as well， and who is he to stifle them？ His crew mates reaching their goals would just make him look better。 He does what he wants， and accidentally inspires others in the process。Honestly， if you haven’t read One Piece yet， you should。 Don’t be scared off by the chapter count。 You will be surprised at how quickly you can read through this series， because this series is a masterpiece in world building and character development， that has remained at the top of its game for almost 25 years。 So， ya， get reading。 。。。more

One Piece is mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus of storytelling， spanning over twenty years of publication， ninety volumes， and over one-thousand chapters。 I will not be putting every volume on my “Read” list because I do not want over half of my list to be one manga series。 In fact， as of writing this review I am only sixty-something volumes in。 This review will be for the first volume and will contain no spoilers and as such will be brief。I made a list of some quick pros and cons you can skim One Piece is mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus of storytelling， spanning over twenty years of publication， ninety volumes， and over one-thousand chapters。 I will not be putting every volume on my “Read” list because I do not want over half of my list to be one manga series。 In fact， as of writing this review I am only sixty-something volumes in。 This review will be for the first volume and will contain no spoilers and as such will be brief。I made a list of some quick pros and cons you can skim through if you don’t want to read the full review。Pros:- Excellent artwork and panelling that fits the story perfectly。 - Story and characters are especially well established。- The pacing is excellent。Cons:- The protagonist could be annoying to some but he didn’t bother me at all。This is how you start a story。 I was instantly hooked on the world and characters of One Piece from the first chapter。 In the time known as “The Great Pirate Era，” Monkey D。 Luffy is a 17 year old boy who wants nothing more than to become the King of the Pirates。 As a boy Luffy ate what’s called the “Gum-Gum Fruit。” The gum-gum fruit is a type of devil fruit which turns the user into a rubber man， giving him super stretching powers。 Devil fruits aren’t all good though， those who eat them are cursed by the sea and lose their ability to swim forever。 Oda uses such a ridiculous sounding power to great effect with Luffy as the perfect wielder of the power and as someone who as read several hundred chapters afterwards， I can say the creativity only continues to grow and Oda’s creative genius is made even more evident。 The volume details how the Great Pirate era began， the Romance Dawn （heh heh） of Luffy’s journey， and his first adventure。 Goals， characters， and the world are all explicitly established， everything we need to know at that specific time is given to us in interesting and gripping ways。 We see what motivates Luffy to begin his voyage and his motivation for taking it， we get to know and get attached to him all in the first chapter。 That’s just the first chapter。 We also get to meet a couple of the supporting characters which are fascinating and not just there to make the main character look cool， but they have their own dreams， motivations， and/or desires。The artwork presented is perfect for a whimsical and adventurous high seas tale such as One Piece。 One Piece maximizes the potential it’s story and setting give to itself。 The art， world， character design， and characters themselves， all feel consistent and like they live in a real world。 Everything is so carefully executed upon that it really feels like this is a real world with real people in it despite the obvious reasons that a world with stretchy， rubber humans cannot exist。 I don’t really know what else I can say about this volume without getting into spoilers， which I really don’t want to do as I think it’s a story that should be experienced with as little knowledge about it as possible。 I don’t know if this is a manga for people who do not like manga。 Its cartoony aesthetic （which is perfect for the world and story being told） can appear off-putting or just really childish。 The length and scope of the overall story can be intimidating to those with little time or those who don’t want to start something so long。 I do think however， if you are open to the idea of reading a manga or are already into manga you’ll definitely enjoy this！ 。。。more

You can really tell that this story is a personal one for Eiichiro Oda。 Every panel carries so much energy and charm it's so much fun to read it。I read before that some people thought that Luffy isn't an interesting character， which I disagree with。 While I will say that the fast pace of the chapters does hinder some development of various characters， we always get to know who they are in the core。 Even if there is no other charactersistics developed throughout， we always know the key characteri You can really tell that this story is a personal one for Eiichiro Oda。 Every panel carries so much energy and charm it's so much fun to read it。I read before that some people thought that Luffy isn't an interesting character， which I disagree with。 While I will say that the fast pace of the chapters does hinder some development of various characters， we always get to know who they are in the core。 Even if there is no other charactersistics developed throughout， we always know the key characteristics of that character。 。。。more
